Questions about dentures and visits
Do you take my insurance?
We file claims for some dental PPO plans and are out of network with the rest. The table on the fees page shows each kind of plan and what we do for it.
What if I don't have insurance?
You get a written estimate before any treatment, with each step and its fee. Many of our patients pay this way.
Do you accept Medicaid, CHIP or Medicare?
We are not enrolled with Medicaid or CHIP. Original Medicare doesn't pay for dentures; some Medicare Advantage plans include dental, so check with yours.
Will it hurt?
Most of the work is pressure, not pain. If teeth are removed, we numb the area, and you can ask us to stop at any time. A new denture can rub in places; we adjust those spots.
How long does a new denture take?
Usually four to six visits over a few weeks. Dr. Sosa gives you the range for your mouth after the exam.
How often should I get X-rays or a cleaning?
Dr. Sosa decides from your exam, and tells you why. Some people come twice a year, some more, some less.
What is a deep cleaning?
A longer cleaning of the roots of the teeth under the gums, usually over two visits, for gums that have pulled away. She shows you why she suggests it.
Do you see children?
Our work is mostly with adults. Dr. Sosa can see an older child or teenager for an exam; for younger children we can suggest a children's dentist.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now: go to an emergency room or call 911. For a broken tooth or denture, call our office.
Do you offer sedation?
No. We use a local anesthetic to numb the area. If you're nervous, tell us and we'll go slowly, or help you find someone who offers it.
Do you speak Spanish?
Dr. Sosa, Marco and Edith speak Spanish and English, and this site is in both.
How do I cancel or change a visit?
Call us as early as you can and we'll find another time. Edith keeps a list of people who'd like an earlier one.
Still have a question?
Call, or send a request and Edith will call back. Please leave out health details.
